This needs a post --- Charred BLT Salad/CL!
I have to mention this Mark Bittman recipe (CL, May 2012). I didn't make the recipe (a good pick on their part!). It was a big hit so mentioning here.

Charred BLT Salad
Based on the BLT, this hearty Charred BLT Salad starts with Romaine; then strips of prosciutto, crunchy bread cubes, and cherry tomatoes are scattered on top--finishing with blue cheese that begins to melt when it hits the warm lettuce.
Yield: Serves 4
Ingredients
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
2 ounces thinly sliced prosciutto, cut crosswise into ribbons
1 1/2 cups (1/2-inch) cubed whole-grain bread (about 2 ounces)
1 pint grape tomatoes
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 romaine hearts, halved lengthwise
Cooking spray
1/4 cup chopped green onions
2 ounces blue cheese, crumbled
Preparation
1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons oil; swirl to coat. Add prosciutto; cook 4 minutes or until crisp, stirring occasionally. Remove prosciutto with a slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels. Add bread to pan; cook 3 minutes or until browned, stirring frequently. Combine prosciutto and bread. Add remaining 1 tablespoon oil to pan. Add tomatoes; cook 5 minutes or until skins begins to split, stirring frequently. Pour tomatoes and olive oil into a small bowl. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
2. Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
3. Coat cut sides of lettuce with cooking spray. Place lettuce, cut side down, on a grill rack coated with cooking spray. Cook 2 minutes or until well marked. Place 1 lettuce half on each of 4 plates. Divide prosciutto mixture and tomato mixture among servings. Top each serving with 1 tablespoon onions and 1/2 ounce cheese.

OUR OWN GROUP COOKBOOK (USING Mastercook 15)
This is not really an ad for MC. I don't work for them, make no monies from them, etc. Just been using the program for many years. I love collecting recipes! I'm an addict.
Anyway, there is a new feature in MC15 and I was just in midst of using it (I grabbed a TNT recipe that SallyT loves best for Zucchini bread...using MC's online recipe grab feature)...and I placed it in MC's online cookbooks...the MC GROUP COOKBOOK that PamE made... The new feature is that people can make GROUP cookbooks, which reside at the online spot...but back on your own computer you hit SYNC and it puts all recipes people have added to it into each person's own computer MC Group Cookbook.
This isn't easy to explain. Sorry if I confuse folks. But as I was doing up SallyT's fav recipe and putting it into the Group Cookbook and then on my own computer sync'ing it and all other new recipes people have put into it (one press of a button) and then looked for it in my own group cookbook....it dawned on me!!! People have been talking forever, as long as MC15 has been out...about how ANY of us can make a group cookbook and share with other MC using friends and everybody input what they want to and we just sync to our own computers...and I thought: HEY WAIT! WE at CL FORUM could do the very same thing! (People would have to have PC's and MC15 though.) BUT so's not to leave our MAC friends out...we could go out of our way just a wee bit and at least send any of them that want a copy in TEXT. And if they wanted to contribute some of their recipes, we could easily format theirs and add to the group book (mentioning their name and their notes, of course).
SO, here is what I'm thinking: do any of you already have MC15? Do you have the online account that comes with it for a year, I think? IF YES, holler at me. I could make us a group cookbook, start putting our recipes that we post here at CLBB into that cookbook. I could show you how to sync it to your own cookbook on your MC. Sweeeeet!!
I figure that none of what I've said makes any sense at this minute. (It didn't to me when this new feature was mentioned...I had to give it a try to see what it was about. All I can say is that the MC Group Cookbook now has almost 3,000 recipes in it...put in by MC users. That's just one private group cookbook. We could make our own...of recipes we share here at CLBB. (And for folks who can't use it, e.g., they don't have MC or PC, we can easily use MC to create a text copy of everything and email it to em. Or put up a copy at DropBox or OneDrive and they can come get it.)
Just a thought. Myself, I am trying to get as many recipes that look great to me from here into my MC anyway. It's an act of love. I cherish the recipes you folks post and talk about. My treasures. I can't do em all... but I can save the ones that look best to me. If we all did same, we would have one HELLUVA cookbook! :)

- strawberries and cream bars - Shauna Sever's blog - cooked base for 21 minutes – perfect
- Flag Cake - SK blog - this was DELICIOUS! I made it in an 13×18 pan, which was the perfect size and height – i baked it for 25 minutes. I did the frosting recipe x 1.5, but next time would do it x2. HUGE hit!
- Tomato green chile seafood stew – Annie's Eats - excellent, made without epazote

- Zucchini Bread - Dunk and Crumble blog - thought the one from Twopeas was better
- Blueberry cream cheese muffins - Spiced life via this board - thought others were better but these were very good
- Baked zucchini sticks with her marinara sauce - Skinnytaste - loved
- Crispy tilapia fingers – Once upon a chef - made a TON, froze the rest raw. Made ½ the lemon sauce
- Strawberry fool – NY Times - very good, try with yogurt next time?

Trump in interview w/George Stephanopoulos talking about Army father that spoke at .
....I read different snippets online in response to Trumps interview with George S, and they talked about the Army father that spoke at DNC.
I had to hear if for myself, and I just shake my head.
First off, Trump basically goes after the wife, and saying well why didn't she speak. He said... "If you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn't allowed to have anything to say. You tell me." And basically repeats that line of thinking twice, and his favorite go to line.... something on the line of many people are saying the same thing. Same ol' Trump, putting nuggets out there but just saying.... just mentioning what I heard. He is throwing it out there, because she is Muslim women, and he forbid her. Oh my. Now is he saying it to just to get the head nods from some of his base, or ?
Well she did say in an interview with Lawrence O'Donnell that she gets too emotional talking about her late son, and then the fear of talking in front of crowd. The logical answer.
And of course serious matter, someone talking about their son that they lost, and Trump questions if he even wrote all of the speech, and did Hilary's team do it.. Oh my, did he not forgot the Melania debacle -- would have thought he wouldn't go there.
I find George S and so many others just weak at interviewing, they let the people blather on. Unless the snippet was cut (and doesn't seem so) George S doesn't really exchange in any discussion. Would have liked if he asked about the whole "not allowed to speak".
And, when Trump asked about what sacrifices he made, his reply, I work hard, created jobs.

IMO he is just gross, reinforced what he said about McCain, whether he believes that, or said it because he has a beef with McCain and is too much of child and lets that cloud any sane judgement.

Any weekend cooking?
Anyone cooking this weekend? We are celebrating my dad's birthday on Sunday. He loves peach desserts so I am making the Summer Peach Cake from Cook's Illustrated and some vanilla bean ice cream to go with it. Williams-Sonoma had their ice cream makers on sale over the 4th of July weekend so I got a Cusinart with an extra bowl. Tomorrow will be its maiden voyage!
I might be motivated enough to make some zucchini bread and maybe some zucchini fritters, too, but we'll see.
Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (Cuisinart) Makes about 6 cups (twelve ½-cup servings)
2 cups whole milk
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup granulated sugar, divided
pinch salt
1 whole vanilla bean, halved and seeds scraped
5 large egg yolks
1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
In a medium saucepan set over medium-low heat, whisk together the milk, cream, half of the sugar, salt and the
scraped vanilla bean (including the pod). Bring the mixture just to a boil. While the milk/cream mixture is heating, combine the yolks and remaining sugar in a medium bowl. Using a hand mixer on low speed or whisk, beat until mixture is pale and thick. Once the milk/cream mixture has come to a slight boil, whisk about 1∕3 of the hot mixture into the yolk/sugar mixture. Add another 1∕3 of the mixture, then return the combined mixture to the saucepan. Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture constantly over low heat until it thickens slightly and coats the back of the spoon. This mixture must NOT boil or the yolks will overcook – the process should only take a few minutes. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer (discard the vanilla pod) and bring to room temperature. Stir in the vanilla extract. Cover and refrigerate 1 to 2 hours or overnight.

MC 14 & Windows 10
I have a question. If I uninstall MC14 and then re-install the program, will I lose recipe content in my cookbooks? (I haven't been able to reach the MC15 upgrade link suggested by Pam N in the last paragraph). Unfortunately, making a backup copy is not an option.

Accidentally clicking twice when trying to add a picture (either a recipe photo or a photo in Directions)
I don't think I should need to upgrade to MC15 because of its ability to work with external devices. That feature is something I would never use, because I don't even own a cell phone. (I know, I live under a rock! :o )

'When I attempt to print the program crashes. It crashes when inserting a picture into a recipe or using Open. It causes an error during spellcheck. This happens in MasterCook 14 and earlier and if you are using Windows 10 with the current Windows Update.'
"This is caused by the latest Windows Update. Microsoft has a few developers working on it. They plan on releasing a new Windows Update that fixes this problem for MasterCook 14 and earlier. They tell us it might be ready after the first of the new year--in a few weeks. It worked great in Windows 10 until the newest update came out. (It is not an issue in MasterCook 15 if you are using the most current version. See the My MasterCook tab in the My MasterCook Manager for a download link to the MasterCook 15 Update. If you are not using the current MasterCook 15 version, there will be a link there.)
In the meantime, you can copy your recipe into another program and print from there. Open the recipe in MasterCook. Use the Copy Recipe command from the Edit menu. Now paste it into another program and print from there.

Watering plants
Is it OK to water plants in the sun, with untreated well water?
My ex always said no watering plants while sun is on them, will kill them.
But my theory is, is it any different than having a huge shower to blow over and dump
rain for about 15-20 minutes and then the sun comes out. Rain water and well water should
be the same, thing right? If I water in the evenings, I get eaten up by bugs. Course I don't
want to mess up my plants, either.
Am I missing something, here?

Favorite ways to use cashew butter?
I just bought a jar of cashew butter and for those that buy it -- what are your favorite ways to use it? I've never had it, but I love cashews.
I know it can certainly be subbed for other nut butters. To start, I can see trying it in something like a peanut sauce (well with cashew butter : ) since I'm a fan of peanut noodles, satay ..... but I'd love some new ideas to try too.

Low Carb/Diabetic Recipes
I've been trying to cut down on carbs, and wondered if members had any input/suggestions/meal ideas/stories re same to share. At one point, I was taking my glucose everyday. Docs opinions varied, and I scrambled from doc to doc after a diagnosis of borderline type 2 diabetes. I did lose 20 lbs in about 6 weeks, but was dissatisfied. What say you?

This is certainly nothing fancy but i thought it sounded good for a super quick veggie meal for those days you want real easy, and topping some pita with some ingredients while sipping a cold drink is more than enough "cooking".
I don't have a grill so would have change it up if I made it. IMO even better to grill some pizza dough and then top it.

I know there is Lifelock.
The ex is going with a very unsavory character. Rap sheet a mile long, from the Connecticut / Rhode Island Area.
Not a real good situation with all my information on deeds and documents. She even told him she was an attorney and though he found out she wasn't, it didn't matter. She told him that she had been framed in each of the instances and he chooses to believe her.
Now until I can get myself protected, I am nervous and on high alert. What ALL can I do to protect myself.

Any favorite breakfast burrito recipes that you can freeze, or other ideas?
I would like to add some quick breakfasts (or good for anytime for that matter) to the freezer. I almost always just have yogurt or cereal, but it would be nice to have something different.
I froze some black bean and corn quesadillas for quick dinners that I thought were great and super convenient, in fact, I wish I had some left for dinner tonight. I thought I would try some freezer things for breakfast.
If you have other breakfast meals that you freeze, I'd love that too.
I've tried freezing eggs that you bake in muffin tin, but they were just ok. It could be the recipe or the fact that I probably didn't follow that closely.

Hello everyone! Is there such a think as an ice cream maker that doesn't require you to freeze the tub or use salt/ice? My freezer on the boat barely holds things frozen so clearly would not get the tub cold enough. I'm just looking for something that will make a small batch of ice cream or sorbet. I've thought about the yonanna thing because I have friends who love it, but it's not really what I'm looking for.

Freezing Green Beans
I have frozen green beans the last couple of summers and haven't really been happy with the results. I cut them into 1 - 2 inch pieces, blanch them for 2 minutes, dump into ice water until cold, then dry and lay them on cookie sheets to freeze individually. After they are frozen, I put them into zip-lock freezer bags and then into the freezer.
When I serve them, they get boiled a couple of minutes but end up very soft. Not like the commercial frozen beans that have a bit of bite to them.
Anybody have different results or methods?

Has anyone bought TJ's frozen Just Grilled Chicken Strips? what you thought?
Eeek, I think TJ's needs to give me triple my money back when I return this. :rolleyes:
I've never bought this before, it is a frozen bag of "Just Grilled Chicken Strips", it is white meat and rib meat. I thought it would be convenient to toss in salads etc.
On the package it says just heat and serve, and for me, heat and toss it out ASAP!
I can't imagine it always tastes this way. And look for that matter. Unappetizing is an understatement. I took such a small taste I can't even explain the mushy yuck. I followed one of their directions to cook in pan with bit of water (I thought better than their microwave directions).
Now I will say that I've never bought pre-cooked chicken before, never bought of those big bags of raw chicken pieces etc., and I'm VERY brand specific when I buy chicken (and I eat lots of chicken at home and at restaurants).
Holy cow, I took the smallest taste and was contemplating tossing the pan, but I showed some maturity.
So has anyone tried it?, would be curious for a review.

Low Carb/Diabetic Recipes
I've been trying to cut down on carbs, and wondered if members had any input/suggestions/meal ideas/stories re same to share. At one point, I was taking my glucose everyday. Docs opinions varied, and I scrambled from doc to doc after a diagnosis of borderline type 2 diabetes. I did lose 20 lbs in about 6 weeks, but was dissatisfied. What say you?

Grilled Mediterranean Pita Pizza
This is certainly nothing fancy but i thought it sounded good for a super quick veggie meal for those days you want real easy, and topping some pita with some ingredients while sipping a cold drink is more than enough "cooking".
I don't have a grill so would have change it up if I made it. IMO even better to grill some pizza dough and then top it.
Hummus, feta... gets me every time.

The ex is going with a very unsavory character. Rap sheet a mile long, from the Connecticut / Rhode Island Area.
Not a real good situation with all my information on deeds and documents. She even told him she was an attorney and though he found out she wasn't, it didn't matter. She told him that she had been framed in each of the instances and he chooses to believe her.
Now until I can get myself protected, I am nervous and on high alert. What ALL can I do to protect myself.

Any favorite breakfast burrito recipes that you can freeze, or other ideas?
I would like to add some quick breakfasts (or good for anytime for that matter) to the freezer. I almost always just have yogurt or cereal, but it would be nice to have something different.
I froze some black bean and corn quesadillas for quick dinners that I thought were great and super convenient, in fact, I wish I had some left for dinner tonight. I thought I would try some freezer things for breakfast.
If you have other breakfast meals that you freeze, I'd love that too.
I've tried freezing eggs that you bake in muffin tin, but they were just ok. It could be the recipe or the fact that I probably didn't follow that closely.

Hello everyone! Is there such a think as an ice cream maker that doesn't require you to freeze the tub or use salt/ice? My freezer on the boat barely holds things frozen so clearly would not get the tub cold enough. I'm just looking for something that will make a small batch of ice cream or sorbet. I've thought about the yonanna thing because I have friends who love it, but it's not really what I'm looking for.

Freezing Green Beans
I have frozen green beans the last couple of summers and haven't really been happy with the results. I cut them into 1 - 2 inch pieces, blanch them for 2 minutes, dump into ice water until cold, then dry and lay them on cookie sheets to freeze individually. After they are frozen, I put them into zip-lock freezer bags and then into the freezer.
When I serve them, they get boiled a couple of minutes but end up very soft. Not like the commercial frozen beans that have a bit of bite to them.
Anybody have different results or methods?

Has anyone bought TJ's frozen Just Grilled Chicken Strips? what you thought?
Eeek, I think TJ's needs to give me triple my money back when I return this. :rolleyes:
I've never bought this before, it is a frozen bag of "Just Grilled Chicken Strips", it is white meat and rib meat. I thought it would be convenient to toss in salads etc.
On the package it says just heat and serve, and for me, heat and toss it out ASAP!
I can't imagine it always tastes this way. And look for that matter. Unappetizing is an understatement. I took such a small taste I can't even explain the mushy yuck. I followed one of their directions to cook in pan with bit of water (I thought better than their microwave directions).
Now I will say that I've never bought pre-cooked chicken before, never bought of those big bags of raw chicken pieces etc., and I'm VERY brand specific when I buy chicken (and I eat lots of chicken at home and at restaurants).
Holy cow, I took the smallest taste and was contemplating tossing the pan, but I showed some maturity.
So has anyone tried it?, would be curious for a review.

Individualized Dirt Cake
I am making dirt cake for the kids, for the picnic. I want to make it in individualized cups.
Portion control, if you will. Also to count and be able to put it aside before the grown ups
grab it all, like it has happened at gatherings at Mother-in-law's get-togethers, we used to have.:eek:
(Not that MY family would do that!:cool:;) )
Does anyone have a recipe they have broken down, with the measurements
of each ingredient for each cup. How many tablespoons of cookie to how
many tablespoons of pudding. I don't want to have cookies or pudding left over.

indvividual cups!

From what I read, he has said "global warming is a myth." So he should get along with Trump swimmingly on that, didn't Trump say it was a conspiracy. IMO, these are just beyond dangerous stances. Boggles my mind. When people say that, do they really believe it, or is it all politics, getting $, votes?
And, he has said few years back that smoking doesn't kill, all this FDA action is an example of big gov't. I tried to see actual article that he he wrote but I guess archived.
I never really heard of him until last year when he approved that law in his state that religious conservatives to refuse their services to same-sex couples and the outrage from so many businesses and residents etc, that ultimately got it revised (and don't recall the details), but boy was he thrown in the limelight then.

Broccoli Salad with Honey Yogurt Dressing
I had some broccoli that needed to be used up (one of those why did I buy so much moves) so I made a Broccoli Salad with Honey Yogurt Dressing from Budgetbytes.com.
I knew I needed to use up the broccoli, and that day I clicked on her site and saw the recipe. And since I had most of the ingredients I decided to give it a try. I didn't follow it exactly but it did have broccoli in it. :)
Some of the other ingredients: red onion, carrots, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds....
I typically roast broccoli so a cold salad was a nice change.

I have a recipe...and I have a container that will keep them good and cold for
the several hours that they will be out of the fridge at the picnic. My problem:
I was planning on making them Friday, but will now have granddaughter for Friday and
Saturday, day of family picnic. My refrigerator is very cold.
Do you think it would be OK to make them tonight, and just refrigerate them and THEN
transfer them to the plates that will keep them cold for several hours out of the refrigerator
on Saturday morning before I head out to picnic?
