NutriBullet complaint

My step-daughter gave me a NutriBullet a couple of years ago. I didn't use it for a long while but once I did I really liked it. For what it costs it has some things I don't like. For example if it leaks it runs down under the blade assembly and potentially into the motor, ruining the unit. I'm super careful about it but I don't understand why they didn't seal that area.

A while back I pulled it out to use it, after having not used it for a month or so, and when I twisted the base off the jar a bad odor hit me in the face. Yuck! Long story short, I figured out that food/liquid had gotten under the gasket on the blade assembly. I was able to pry it out with a knife and OMG the gunk underneath was disgusting. I still haven't completely gotten rid of the smell. So now every time I use it I have to pry that gasket out (which is not easy) and clean it, which of course is cutting and ruining the gasket so the problem is just getting worse.

Finally I got annoyed enough to research the problem online and found that NutriBullet basically acknowledges the design flaw and had been replacing people's blade assembly with an improved one where the gasket is permanent and not an issue. So this morning I called Customer Service looking for help. They told me that because I was no longer in warranty I would have to pay $12.95 to get a new blade assembly. Well that kinda ticked me off. It's not that much money but it's the principle. They have a design flaw but in order to solve the customer's problem you make them buy the replacement part? I forked over the $12.95 but I wasn't happy about it and told the Customer Service rep how I felt but she didn't respond. Just asked for my credit card number.

So I'm sharing with you, primarily in case any of you have one of these NutriBullet's and have experienced this problem. If it's a pale gray gasket or off-white then it's the old style like I have. Thanks for letting me vent!
