getting rid of odor from stored things

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of the odor from having something in storage for a long time? I have a April Cornell Silvestri blue floral fabric bag set that was given to me years ago as a gift and it's never been used. Still has the tags. But it smells like storage. :-(

I was thinking I could toss it in the dryer with a dryer sheet of some kind. Any other thoughts? I have the tote bag than holds a laptop if desired, a money/credit card bag, jewelry roll and a handheld purse.
